Our Lady's Food Pantry is managed by our Food Pantry Committee, a group which quietly organizes the food donations we receive for those in need around us.
We try to collect food from parishioners on the first weekend of each month and when we are close to major holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. Besides donations from our parishioners, we receive non-perishable food from our sister parish, St. Charles Borromeo in Parma, and also from Gesu and St. Dominic's parishes on a regular basis. In addition to food, we now collect food coupons and any cash donations, so that Our Lady's Food Pantry Chairperson can buy needed items at low prices.
Members of Our Lady's Food Pantry Committee come once each week to the Rectory, on their own time schedules, to sort and shelve the latest contributions. They also pack about an average of fifteen food bags each week, which parish staff give out on Mondays to people in need from our neighborhood.
We would love a few new members for our committee. As you can see, times when committee members come are very flexible. We hope that this outreach ministry will appeal to OLP individuals and families too.
